Go Mental
In A Nutshell
The game has been around since 1997 and was launched at the London Toy Fair in 2004. It took off in the US last year, and HL Games are now concentrating on getting the UK to latch on.
You take it in turns to read out a list of four things/objects/places etc. to the player to your left - they have to identify the odd one out [for a point] and the connection between the other three [a further three points]. If you can't answer, then the next player in line gets a chance. First player to 50 points is the winner! Sounds simple enough, but you each start with 8 'Steal' cards and 2 'Challenge' cards, so if you want to nick someones question then you can, or if you want to tactically avoid answering and stitch up an opponent, then you can. Watch out though, your opponent may know more about the list than you think.
Each card gives you details of why the three are connected and what the fourth is, so it has educational content, and the 'I knew that' factor. The timer is only in the box to be brandished if someone is using delaying tactics.
They Say
"..the only game that mixes music, mythology and Monty Python; cars, computers and cocktail recipes; sports stars, cartoon characters and nursery rhymes; famous people and ordinary objects; common knowledge and rare information. Plus, along the way, GO mental is an eccentric encyclopaedia, a mini-miscellany - in fact, an all-round education in entertainment."
